Sunday January 23 2011 Kick-off meeting

This will be a planning meeting and social event, a chance to get caught up on our efforts, reacquainted with one another, and announce new initiatives. Also, it’s a chance to begin or renew your American Society for Acoustic Ecology (ASAE) membership. As always, local World Listening Project board members and supporters are invited and will be participating. Following the meeting, you may walk with us to The Renaissance Society for a free concert by Tony Conrad at 8 pm.
Friday, Febuary 18 Jay Needham: Ars Memoria…

Jay Needham will present selections from recent works in a lecture titled Ars Memoria: Several Alternate Histories of Place. Jay will be finishing a chapter on the sounds of Mashinima and planning an evening of radio art and surround sound works for the April 2011 Out of the Box Contemporary Music Festival in Carbondale, Illinois. Jay is a Sound and Media Artist who teaches in the Communications Department at Southern Illinois University, and a member of the MSAE.

Viv Corringham comes to Chicago in March to talk about her Shadow-walks project. This began in 2003 and has occurred in 15 places in the USA, Canada and Europe.Â It is rooted in her interest in people’s relationship with familiarÂ places, and involves three main elements: walking with others, listening to environmental sound, andÂ her own improvised singing.Â She will play selections of work based on recent artist residenciesÂ at Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art in Portugal and the Deep Listening Institute in New York State. Viv is a vocal artist and composer based in Minneapolis, and a longtime member of the American Society for Acoustic Ecology.
