Monday 10.05.2010Sonic Exquisite Corpse project begins. 50 international artists to participate using  the five senses as inspiration

Saturday 29.05.2010 | noon - 17:00 | Open Day with Sonic Jukebox. Download the participant list (artists and their work) here in PDF format

Sunday 18.07.2010 | Time: 1pm | Into the Wilds: An Urban-Rural Soundwalk | Tottenham - Tottenham Marshes | Suitable for all ages | Free | SoundFjord invite one and all to join them on their first soundwalk as part of World Listening Day. 1pm start/talk.

SoundFjord’s soundwalk is inspired by World Listening Project’s activities within acoustic ecology. Equally, our interest in the dichotomy of the location where SoundFjord resides: in the hubbub of north London urbanity, nestled close to the sanctity of Tottenham Marshes, has propelled us to create a walk that focuses one’s hearing on the excess of the human and mechanical world and that of the relative quietude of the rural landscape.

We are delighted to announce that Ian M Rawes will speak on the historic soundscapes of the locality before the walk; once the expedition arrives at Tottenham Marshes, the photographer, David Cottridge, will guide the group through the sonic landscapes of bird song at the Marsh, and David Chapman will talk about his work 'Live Feed' and also demonstrate the use of hydrophones in the pond and canal nearby. The group will have the opportunity to listen for themselves the underwater beetles and the lock nearby!

Activities: During the soundwalk, participants are urged not only to listen with intent, but to record the sounds they hear in a variety of media (writing, drawing, talking, video, photography, etc). Walkers are encouraged to remain silent when they feel the need to listen with clarity. All walkers are asked to make a record of the sounds they perceive or find particularly interesting at approximate landmark points along their map and at any points where soundmarks are noted. Walkers with field recording equipment are encouraged to share their sonic experience with others, allowing one another to listen to amplified sounds!

After the event, the recorded soundwalk will be edited and made available to the public along with directions for walkers to re-walk the route and details of the ‘collective soundmap’ produced by walkers.

Feel free to bring whatever recording devices you have, including binaural headphones, field recorders, cameras, video cameras, notebooks...

SoundFjord at The Dragonfly Festival
Festival | Friday 20- Sunday 22 August 2010 | noon - very late | Tickets - £52 approx for 3-day ticket; various available from one day+. Concs available.

SoundFjord’s present its first art programme within an open-air festival this coming Friday to Sunday, 20-22 August 2010.

This year, SoundFjord brings a fine collection of international sonic art to the Dragonfly cultural programme.

In the centre of idyllic surrounds your ears will deceive you. From the trees, tropical birds shall sing of their home in the Amazon, industrial clanks and groans will ripple across the lake whilst spectral voices will coo and woo us into their depths; doors will creak and slam where there are no openings, chinks of light will fall on pools of liquid ambience and abstract composition; muttering and laughing, preaching and monologues, will all mingle with the instruments on the main stage, and the music of nature itself.

Be sure to follow your ears to the SoundFjord Sound Art Tent, to be found in the open field between the Art Hut and the Bronze-Age Bar.
