July 18th, Milwaukee Soundwalk
Now I will do nothing but listen…
I hear all sounds running together, combined,
fused or following, sounds of the city and sounds out of the city, sounds of the day and night
– Walt Whitman, Song of Myself
For World Listening Day 2021, MSAE is happy to announce a soundwalk in Milwaukee’s Lakeshore State park, presented by Black Box Fund.
Meet at Lake Shore State Park with ears wide open! Join in a sound walk along the lakefront with the skyline of Milwaukee as a backdrop. Celebrate listening as a way to better understand the built and natural environments. Learn about different types of sound and how Acoustic Ecology Researchers are studying the health of biodiversity through listening and field recordings. Walk away with Sound Maps to make on your own from wherever you are. Connect with online Sound Maps and recordings on your phone, ipad or computer. Sound Walking explores acoustic ecology, a discipline that studies the relationship between humans and the natural world as mediated through sound. So quiet down, open up your ears, and get ready to study soundscapes. For more information, visit https://blackboxfund.org/ootb-schedule/worldlistening.
