Linda Keane

Linda Keane, AIA, is an artist, architect, and design education innovator. She combines an ecological urban design practice, STUDIO 1032 with her partner, Mark Keane, and works on green initiatives along the Chicago-Milwaukee corridor with community and multi-disciplinary team participation. Professor of Architecture and Environmental Design, she is founder of the architecture program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. An e-Learning entrepreneur, she co-founded and leads the NEXT.cc E-Learning Designopedia empowering youth voice in shaping responses to the cultural, economic, technological, and environmental contemporary challenges of society. In workshops, teacher professional development, and curriculum consulting, she introduces inquiry-based exploration of what design is, what design does and why it is important to our sustainable future in fifty states and over two hundred countries.

This year she organized conversations on the River in a new format, Eco Cruises, encouraging professionals and the public to embrace the importance of healthy water for healthy cities. With Friends of the Chicago River,  she led Water Workshops supported by the Chicago Community Trust and HIVE Chicago for CPS students. This year NEXT.cc received a National Creative Achievement Award in Education for design and dissemination of design challenges via ELearning.

She swims and kayaks on rivers and lakes in the summer!

The APA American Association WI Chapter, Art Institute of Chicago, American Institute of Architects, American Architectural Foundation, Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture, Graham Foundation for the Advancement of Art and Architecture, National Endowment of the Arts, PBS Chicago, United States Green Building Council, Union of International Architects and Wisconsin Water Thinkers Network recognize Keane’s innovative creation of socially connected landscapes. Keane is a member the American Institute of Architects, Biomimicry Chicago, EU’s Internet of Things for Children, Fulbright International, National Place Making Board for Project for Public Spaces, National Art Education Association, National Science Teachers Association, the Metropolitan Planning Council Placemaking, and Project for Public Space Advisory Boards.
